Big tip of the tentacle to Jason from the awesome Cephalopodcast for sending me these links to this awesome playlist of Moby Dick songs. The list has Man Man so that makes me happy. Go check it out its really great to play and has a wide range of styles.
I think I have another song called Ahab so I will have to throw that up when I find it.
Send in more recommendations/links! I get lazy.
Black Moth Super Rainbow + The Octopus Project - Spiracle
From Wikipedia:
”Spiracles are small openings on the surface of some animals that usually lead to respiratory systems.”
From www.marinebiodiversity.ca:
“The spiracle is a vestigial first gill slit. It appears as an opening behind the eye, as in the spiny dogfish photo below. It is absent or reduced in many sharks, especially the fast swimming sharks and is usually larger and present in sedentary or bottom dwelling sharks. The spiracle in sharks is used to provide oxygenated blood directly to the eye and brain through a separate blood vessel. In the rays, the spiracle is much larger and more developed and is used to actively pump water over the gills to allow the ray to breathe while buried in the sand.”
From Britannica:
“The nasal opening of whales and other cetaceans is called a spiracle”
Its sort of funny I came across this article while listening to this band called Said the Whale, which is mention in the second article.
I thought Japan-prefix was going to be the next big band name, first there was Japanther, then Japancakes, and then Japandroids. But man whale has taken it by storm, might even exceed wolf

Cursive - “Driftwood: A Fairy Tale”
Today’s platter of marine music is an interesting retelling of the Pinochio story by Cursive, complete with a mention of Monstro the whale. Sadly, at the end of this version our wooden hero ends up adrift on the sea, hence the title of the song.

Mount Eerie - I Whale
“But with a ‘thump’ ‘thump’ beneath my boat
Watch the water rise
And storms rage in my skiff crumbles
And the whale beneath assails and humbles
It says: “Knock knock!” from beneath
“You know it’s me!
I’m your heart, I’m a whale
I’m the bottom of the deep black sea
My mouth is white and toothy” “
As a psuedo-marine biologist I don’t condone whale hunting but I do really like this song.
Japanther - Save the Whales
It is a bit ironic with the band name and song title. I do love how they have whale calls in the song.
Sorry for not posting anything yesterday, it was a bit of a busy day and I had to work today so I didn’t want to go to bed late.
